Leslie Moody Castro and Ana Segovia's 'Boy Toy', Oil on canvas, 2019
AUSTIN, Texas - Peralta Projects today announced a new project titled The Art Gamble. The informal Podcast features a guest artist or curator every month beginning in July. Up to 10 other guests will appear simultaneously on the Podcast and participate in a game of No Limit Texas Hold 'Em with the featured artist while discussing the gamble that is being part of contemporary art.
Peralta Projects founder Esteban Peralta describes it as a natural extension of his recently shuttered Denver-based garage gallery where his focus was on artists as people first. "I'm primarily interested in the human beings that make up the contemporary art world," said Peralta Projects founder, Esteban Peralta. "I don't know that there's a better way to get to know those humans than with beer, gambling, and a microphone."
The Art Gamble begins on July 27 with Leslie Moody Castro and Ana Segovia. Moody Castro is an independent curator and writer living and working in both Mexico and Texas. She has organized and collaborated on exhibitions at Artpace San Antonio, CentralTrak Dallas, and CoLab Projects in Austin and is a regular contributor for Artforum, Flash Art International, Frieze Magazine, ArtNews, and ArtCritical.
Segovia is a Mexico City-based artist and writer. She participated in several group exhibitions including 'In The Company of Flowers' at Kruger Gallery Chicago and 'It's not what it looks like' at Fuego Gallery in Mexico City. Solo shows include 'A Boy Named Sue' at Karen Huber Gallery in Mexico City and 'Boys and Boots' at Ltd Los Angeles. She's a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Founded in 2018, Peralta Projects' mission is to bring established and emerging contemporary artists of varying and inclusive backgrounds and practices together in conversation with a specific concentration on the human element of the artists and their work.
