DENVER - Peralta Projects announces the opening of its first performance exhibition at 6 p.m. on March 15 featuring the works of San Antonio-based artist Christie Blizard. The exhibition titled Sinusoidal includes powerful performance, video, and sound work with Blizard appearing as an alien DJ in a work that is coupled with movement.
Blizard often performs with a puppet of Jean-Francois Lyotard who symbolizes avant-garde ideas that rupture language and rationality to create new ways of thinking and acting that open up greater ethical dimensions of understanding. In her performances, Blizard wears three-dimensional printed masks of the celebrities Scarlett Johansson and Elle Fanning who symbolize empty vessels that her avatar, Sinusoidal, can enter.
A recent project on American morning television shows, The Today Show and Good Morning America, was featured in Hyperallergic and Art News in 2015. She recently completed a residency at Artpace in San Antonio curated by Yoshua Okón. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2018. Other residencies include the MacDowell Artist Colony, Centraltrak Artist through the University of Texas at Dallas, and SIM Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland. She has also been featured in Art in America, NY Arts Magazine, and Blouin Artinfo. She also recently performed at the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, curated by Dean Daderko.
Peralta Projects is a Denver-based contemporary garage art gallery located at 747 Elati Street in Denver's La Alma-Lincoln Park neighborhood. ■
